All testing fees willbe paid by the student.International Baccalaureate (IB) Credit: The Registrar may award up to 6 semester hours of transfercredit in a specific discipline for Higher Level International Baccalaureate scores of 5 and above (A1 or A2exams are required for English). Academic departments have the authority to require a higher score in theirdiscipline(s). A department also has the authority not to accept any IB credit. The maximum transfercredits for Higher Level International Baccalaureate awarded by <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> is 30 semester hours.Other Credit by Examination: Upon initial receipt of official ACTFL, CLEP/DANTES grade reportsor transcripts acceptable to the Registrar, credit may be earned through the College Level ExaminationProgram (CLEP) General Examinations, CLEP Subject Examinations, College Board Advanced PlacementExaminations, the ACT Proficiency Examination Program (PEP), and DANTES Subject StandardizedTests (DSST’s).Transfer CreditThe Registrar is responsible for determining the acceptability of academic credit from other institutionsinto <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>. In determining the transferability of academic credit, the following minimumguidelines will be followed, with the understanding that <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> is at no time under anyobligation, legal or otherwise, to accept the academic credits of any institution, except where provided forin reciprocal contractual agreements among colleges. Credit will be awarded only in areas that fall withinthe regular curricular offerings of the institution and must be appropriately related to the student’s currenteducational goals.1. A maximum of 62 semester hours of course work will be accepted from two-year post secondaryinstitutions. Only courses which fulfill 100/200 level courses at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> will betransferred from a community/junior college.2. A maximum of 62 semester hours of credit may be awarded from non-traditional learning sources,including military training courses, Army Military Occupational Specialties (MOS’s), NavyRatings, Coast Guard Ratings, Marine Corps (MOS’s), and Air Force Specialty Codes (AFSC’s).Credit will be awarded in accordance with the recommendations stated in the ACE Guide.3. A maximum of 95 semester hours of course work, from all sources, will be accepted as transfercredit by <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>. For degree completion, at least 25% of the semester credit hoursmust be earned through instruction by <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>.4. Courses taught as 100/200 level courses at any institution will not be transferred as equivalent to300/400 level courses at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>.5. Formal evaluations of all transfer credit will be provided for current students who have earned aminimum of six semester hours with a grade point average of 2.0 or higher at <strong>Methodist</strong><strong>University</strong>.6. Academic credit from post-secondary institutions will be evaluated as follows:A course with a grade of C- or higher may be accepted if it meets the following criteria:a. The institution awarding the grade was accredited by a regional accrediting agency atthe time the grade was earned; andb. <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> has an equivalent course or the course is applicable as electivecredit. Course grades of less than C- will not be accepted. Courses taken on an auditor pass/fail basis will not be accepted.Innovative Learning OpportunitiesQualified upper-division students can, with the approval of the appropriate department and the VicePresident for Academic Affairs, pursue non-traditional programs (e.g., internships in state and federalagencies, resident study at foreign institutions, independent study and research) on and off campus forcredit.Visiting Student LettersAt the time a student enrolls for his/her first class at <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong>, he/she is considered, forenrollment purposes, a <strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> student. In order to receive subsequent academic credit at<strong>Methodist</strong> <strong>University</strong> for course work taken at another institution after becoming enrolled, the student mustobtain written approval from the Office of the Registrar in the form of a visiting student letter.24
