ACADEMIC LIFEAcademic Policies and ProceduresAdvising and Registration/Faculty AdvisorsUpon admission to the M.Div. or M.A.M.C. degree program, each student is assigned a facultyadvisor by the Director <strong>of</strong> Admissions. When possible, student preferences as to choice <strong>of</strong> advisorand proposed academic interests are taken into consideration. After one year, a student maymake a request to the Associate Dean for a different faculty advisor. <strong>Student</strong>s admitted to the<strong>University</strong>/Seminary cooperative 3/3 program are assigned an undergraduate 3/3 program advisor.The university assigns undergraduate advisors at the time <strong>of</strong> matriculation.UDTS faculty are scholars who are pastor-teachers. The advisor guides and encourages thestudent with reference to the student’s academic program. The student is ultimately responsiblefor making certain she/he has fulfilled all requirements prior to the anticipated graduation date.The advisor assists in building ties within the community, especially within the advisor’s group <strong>of</strong>advisees, and seeks to encourage and facilitate the individual development <strong>of</strong> the student.Registration<strong>Student</strong>s register for courses using MYUD. Registration requires clearance from the student’sadvisor. <strong>Student</strong>s must be in good financial standing with the <strong>University</strong> in order to register forclasses.New students register for courses during orientation. Returning students must register for thefollowing semester’s courses during the announced registration period. <strong>Student</strong>s who fail toregister during this period will incur a late registration fee.Cross-Registration<strong>Student</strong>s who are registered for any UDTS degree program have the option <strong>of</strong> cross-registeringfor courses <strong>of</strong>fered by Wartburg Theological Seminary as avilable, up to a maximum <strong>of</strong> 6 credithours per semester. With the approval <strong>of</strong> their advisor and the Dean <strong>of</strong> the Seminary, students mayrequest permission <strong>of</strong> the Academic and <strong>Student</strong> Affairs Committee to register for upper-levelundergraduate courses at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong> that are applicable to their UDTS program. Insuch an instance, the Committee will require the pr<strong>of</strong>essor <strong>of</strong> the undergraduate course to submit adescription <strong>of</strong> the ways course requirements will be augmented to meet graduate expectations.Once a student has matriculated at the seminary, all core courses must be taken at UDTS.Attendance RequirementsChristian responsibility exhorts the community not to misuse freedom and calls it to faithfulnessin the task <strong>of</strong> maximum involvement in preparation for ministry. Pr<strong>of</strong>essors may set differentattendance expectations for their classes. Community worship is at the heart <strong>of</strong> Christiancommunity and the church. We urge regular attendance at chapel and other occasions <strong>of</strong> worship.101
