7. Safety Concerns: GeneralFailure to observe all safety regulations applying to specific use <strong>of</strong> electrical appliances and/orcooking in the residence halls. Failure to clean up any accidents involving, but not limited to,tobacco chew, spit, vomit, urine, feces, hair, food, or other products. Any actions considered bystate law, local ordinance, or <strong>University</strong> community standard to be a threat to the safety, health,and welfare <strong>of</strong> oneself or others.8. Safety and Fire Prevention: Equipment TamperingTampering with, damaging, destroying, or improperly using safety equipment or fire-preventionequipment such as exit lights, stair rails, fire exit doors, smoke detectors, fire alarms, fire escapestairs, or corridors.Setting <strong>of</strong>f a false alarm is also a criminal <strong>of</strong>fense under the City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong> Fire Code, Section10202, and is punishable by a court fine <strong>of</strong> $100 and/or 30 days in jail. <strong>Student</strong>s who do notleave during a fire alarm may be referred to the City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong> and are subject to a fine <strong>of</strong> upto $750 for a first <strong>of</strong>fense and $1,000 for any subsequent <strong>of</strong>fense.In addition to other sanctions, restitution charges for fire extinguishers are:• Recharge Costs: ABC Dry-Chemical - $55.00; Water Extinguisher - $45.00• Replacement Costs: ABC Dry-Chemical - $105.00; Water Extinguisher - $95.009. TheftTaking, selling, or possessing property without the consent <strong>of</strong> its owner or without properremuneration.10. VandalismAny deliberate act <strong>of</strong> destruction (removal, destroying, defacing, or damaging) to any part <strong>of</strong> the<strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong> or any items <strong>of</strong> personal property, including, but not limited to, anyproperty (including buildings, grounds, or equipment) belonging to the <strong>University</strong> or to anystudents, faculty, staff, or guests <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>. Any destruction that remains unreported bythose responsible for accidental damage to such items.11. WeaponsThe <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong> expressly prohibits the possession and/or use <strong>of</strong> weapons on campus,on properties or facilities owned or occupied by the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong>, and at activities orevents sponsored by the <strong>University</strong>. Possession includes carrying weapons on or about yourperson (e.g. holster, pocket, backpack, etc.), or other area under your effective control (e.g.residence hall, campus housing, storage locker, etc.) including but not limited to any vehicle, iflocated on <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong> property.For purposes <strong>of</strong> this policy, the term “weapons” includes:• Firearms <strong>of</strong> any kind, whether loaded, unloaded, or antique;• Air rifles and guns <strong>of</strong> any type, including but not limited to pellet, flare, tranquilizer, stun,spear and dart;90
