Worship and Spiritual Life Committee (WSLC)The WSLC, a committee <strong>of</strong> the Faculty/Staff Council, has the responsibility to provide a variety <strong>of</strong>opportunities for worship and spiritual nurture. The committee is chaired by the Pastor to <strong>Student</strong>s.The WSLC will seek to develop a wholesome and holistic approach to the Christian formation <strong>of</strong>students preparing for ministry and their families. The committee will seek to promote holinesswithin the entire Seminary community. In its endeavor to be faithful to these tasks, the WSLChelps to coordinate the worship life <strong>of</strong> the community and the four pastoral functions <strong>of</strong> guiding,healing, reconciling, and sustaining as these functions relate to community and individual growth inChristian spirituality.The broad areas which the WSLC coordinates include:• Worship• Spiritual retreats• Spiritual direction and Christian communitySeminary WorshipWe are called as Christians to love God with all our heart, soul, and mind. The Seminary seeksto nurture this love in the classroom, in chapel, in the library, and through individual devotions.Corporate worship is held Tuesday through Thursday at 9:30 a.m. during fall and springsemesters. The Seminary community gathers to hear the Scriptures publicly read and the Wordproclaimed, sing praise to God, and join in prayer. On Wednesday the sacrament <strong>of</strong> the Lord’sSupper is celebrated.<strong>Student</strong>s, faculty, and guests are invited to participate in leading worship for the community.Rev. Beth McCaw, Pastor to <strong>Student</strong>s, schedules worship leaders. Guest preachers are invitedand scheduled only in consultation with the Dean <strong>of</strong> the Seminary. The community uses the richliturgical resources <strong>of</strong> various Christian traditions in the course <strong>of</strong> the year.Chapel on Tuesdays and Thursday is thirty minutes long. Chapel on Wednesdays is forty-fiveminutes long. During August and January intensives daily 30-minute services are <strong>of</strong>fered. Allstudents are encouraged to share their gifts with the entire Seminary community and beforeGod by leading worship. <strong>Student</strong>s who have completed the course Foundations <strong>of</strong> Preaching areencouraged to preach in chapel.122
