in or benefit from the educational process. Auxiliary aids may include, but are not limited to:readers, sign language interpreters, note takers, tutors, and special equipment. The Director <strong>of</strong>the Academic Success Center will assist qualified undergraduate and graduate students inlocating tutors and readers. The <strong>University</strong> does not provide personal attendant care. TheDirector <strong>of</strong> the Academic Success Center will help identify service providers and specialequipment on campus or in the community. Rules may not be imposed on a qualified student’suse <strong>of</strong> auxiliary aids if the rule would have a limiting effect on the qualified student’sparticipation in the educational process (e.g., prohibiting guide dogs, interpreters, taperecorders, or other necessary special equipment in the classroom).In unusually difficult cases, the <strong>University</strong> may provide alternative methods by which the qualifiedstudent with a disability may effectively meet educational requirements. Any such alternativesmust be practicable and not interfere with the integrity <strong>of</strong> the program or activity or any licensingrequirement. Such alternative methods may include, but are not limited to the following: coursesubstitution, curricular modification, and extended time to meet requirements. Suchaccommodations will be employed only when deemed necessary and so long as the alternativemethod is nondiscriminatory in nature, is not unduly limiting to the educational process <strong>of</strong> thequalified student with a disability, and is reasonable under all <strong>of</strong> the circumstances.Qualified students requesting auxiliary aids are expected to provide the Director <strong>of</strong> the AcademicSuccess Center access to medical, educational, psychological, or other information as necessaryto assess the need for auxiliary aids. The <strong>University</strong> reserves the right to disallow the use <strong>of</strong>auxiliary aids that are or are reasonably likely to be disruptive to the academic environment.Complaint Process<strong>Student</strong>s with disabilities have the right to have access and accommodation complaintsaddressed through a formal appeals procedure. Relief may be sought from decisions, actions, orconditions that are believed to be in violation <strong>of</strong> the law or this policy statement.Any member <strong>of</strong> the student body who believes she/he has not been reasonably accommodated asrequired by law or this policy, or who believes she/he has been unlawfully discriminated againston the basis <strong>of</strong> a disability, may initiate informal or formal actions for complaint resolution asoutlined in the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong>’s Harassment Policy. These procedures are published in the<strong>Student</strong> <strong>Handbook</strong> or may be obtained from <strong>Student</strong> Life. The Director <strong>of</strong> the Academic SuccessCenter can be contacted at 563/589-3570.MOTOR VEHICLE POLICIESThese regulations are provided to ensure the safety <strong>of</strong> drivers, pedestrians, and property, as wellas manage parking for all who drive a vehicle on and around the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong> campus.Registration <strong>of</strong> Motor Vehicles (Including Motorcycles)All vehicles belonging to or being used by students enrolled at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong> must beregistered with the <strong>University</strong> and have the appropriate parking permit properly displayed in therequired place. All persons registering or driving motor vehicles on UD property are responsiblefor knowing the rules and regulations governing parking and traffic.67
