Housing Residency RequirementsAll undergraduate students having earned less than 90 credit hours by the start <strong>of</strong> the fallsemester are required to live in <strong>University</strong> housing units, space permitting, unless they meet one<strong>of</strong> the following criteria: married and living with spouse; have and are living with a child/childrenor legal dependent; and/or living with and commuting daily from the home <strong>of</strong> an immediaterelative (parent, grandparent, sibling, or legal guardian) within 50 miles <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong>. <strong>Student</strong>sinterested in seeking an exemption to this policy must contact the Office <strong>of</strong> Residence Life tocomplete an exemption application. (NOTE: Until students have received written authorizationfrom the Office <strong>of</strong> Residence Life, they are not released from the Residency Requirement.<strong>Student</strong>s will be charged for residence hall housing if enrolled and living <strong>of</strong>f-campus withoutwritten approval from the Office <strong>of</strong> Residence Life.)Housing StaffDirector <strong>of</strong> Residence Life: The Director <strong>of</strong> Residence Life leads the department in executing itsmission to promote student development and facilitate dynamic learning communities centeredin quality residence units and family housing accommodations. In this role, the Director worksclosely with the entire Residence Life staff to plan, direct, and administer all aspects <strong>of</strong> theoperation <strong>of</strong> the residential system. This includes administrative duties, maintenance, security,programming, and meeting regularly with students to discuss personal, academic, and socialconcerns. The Director <strong>of</strong> Residence Life reports to the Vice President and Dean <strong>of</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Life.Resident Directors/Area Coordinators (RD/AC): The Area Coordinators/Hall Directors directlysupervise and administer their assigned residence facility. They supervise the resident assistantsand work cooperatively to assist students in taking advantage <strong>of</strong> academic, cultural, spiritual,physical, and social opportunities. They report to the Director <strong>of</strong> Residence Life.Resident Assistants: The Resident Assistants are specially trained students living on the floor <strong>of</strong><strong>University</strong> residences. They will assist students in achieving their goals at the <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong><strong>Dubuque</strong> by sponsoring programs <strong>of</strong> interest, explaining and enforcing specific <strong>University</strong> policiesand regulations, and getting to know students personally. They report to their RD/AC and theDirector <strong>of</strong> Residence Life.Illegal Entry<strong>Student</strong>s, guests, and all other unauthorized persons are prohibited from entering any <strong>University</strong>building or room, including residence units, as well as <strong>University</strong> owned or individually ownedvehicles without expressed permission from an authorized <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong>ficial, faculty, staffmember, or resident <strong>of</strong> such housing unit or vehicle.Insect and Pest ControlThe <strong>University</strong> has contracted with a local pest control company to perform regular spraying forinsects in each residence facility. Although the fumes are not toxic to humans, some individualsare sensitive to the odor. If you observe insects in your room or residence facility, please reportit to your Resident Assistant or residence facility staff. Remember that you play a key role inkeeping pest problems to a minimum. Please empty your trash regularly. There will beannounced room/residence inspections for health and safety standards. Uncooperative residentsrisk disciplinary sanctions.33
