<strong>Student</strong> Government Association (SGA) 563/589-3388The <strong>Student</strong> Government Association (SGA) exists to enable all college students to take part inmaking positive contributions to the college and local communities. SGA claims its existence in theformulation <strong>of</strong> ideas, student leadership, cooperation, and equal representation. The purpose <strong>of</strong>SGA is to unite the entire student body, stimulate student leadership and involvement throughoutthe college community, aid in establishing a sense <strong>of</strong> responsibility and fellowship amongcollege students, be the <strong>of</strong>ficial voice for the unified student body, act as a sounding board forstudent ideas and concerns, serve as a forum for communication among all studentconstituencies, act as a unified voice in raising awareness <strong>of</strong> issues which affect all students,constitute the legislative body that makes decisions for the general student body, aid inmaintaining healthy relations with the Seminary <strong>Student</strong> Council, the local community, and thefaculty/staff <strong>of</strong> the <strong>University</strong>.Intercollegiate Athletics 563/589-3227The <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong>’s Athletic Department is host to twenty NCAA Division III sports.Women compete in ten intercollegiate sports: basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer,s<strong>of</strong>tball, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and field, and volleyball. Men compete in ten sports:baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track andfield, and wrestling. All teams belong to the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC). To be eligible to participate in UD’s intramurals, anindividual must be a <strong>University</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong> student, faculty, or staff member. More than 20activities are <strong>of</strong>fered each year for participants <strong>of</strong> all skill levels and abilities. Intramural sportsprovide a great opportunity to exercise, meet people, and compete.Office <strong>of</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Activities 563/589-3583The Office <strong>of</strong> <strong>Student</strong> Activities (OSA) <strong>of</strong>fers a wide variety <strong>of</strong> activities for the student body. Theprimary projects <strong>of</strong> OSA include New <strong>Student</strong> Orientation in the fall and spring for new first-yearand transfer students and Homecoming Week events. OSA assists the <strong>University</strong> ProgramCouncil in the planning and implementation <strong>of</strong> campus-wide social programming. OSA is also thehub for all active student organizations’ communications, finances, and event coordination.<strong>Student</strong>s are <strong>of</strong>fered many opportunities to gain valuable life experiences through a variety <strong>of</strong>leadership and service opportunities both on campus and in the surrounding community. Ourpartnership with local non-pr<strong>of</strong>it agencies allows our students, faculty, and staff the opportunityto recognize and develop their own leadership potential through workshops, community serviceprojects, and student programs. The UD Wellness Program provides students, faculty, andstaff diverse opportunities that strive for an optimal state <strong>of</strong> health. The UD Wellness Programincludes access to facilities, group exercise classes, and education.28
