Electrical Information/ServiceThere are electrical outlets provided in each residence facility. If the power goes out, pleasecontact a member <strong>of</strong> the hall staff or call Campus Safety and Security at 563/589-3333. Staff willrestore power to your residence. Appliances responsible for repeated electrical failures will bebanned from the facility. For general utilities information, see “Utilities” section.Extension CordsThe City <strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong> Housing Code prohibits the use <strong>of</strong> extension cords for permanent wiring inany rental unit. <strong>University</strong> residential facilities are included in this policy. For temporary hookup, itis recommended that surge protected power strips be utilized.Fire-Fighting Equipment and AlarmsFire-fighting equipment and alarms are placed in the residential facilities for your protection.Any student setting fires, tampering with, or misusing fire-fighting equipment (i.e., extinguishersand smoke detectors) is subject to disciplinary action and/or prosecution under Iowa Statuteswhich includes a minimum $250 fine. Refer to the Emergency Procedures section for furtherinformation regarding fire and other emergency procedures. Any student setting <strong>of</strong>f a false alarmanywhere on campus is subject to disciplinary action that could result in possible suspension orexpulsion from the <strong>University</strong>.Furnishings in the Residence FacilitiesEach traditional residence facility (Aitchison, Cassat, and Donnell Halls) is furnished with a bedframe, mattress, desk, chair, closet space or wardrobe, and chest <strong>of</strong> drawers for each student.Drapes or blinds, microwave, and refrigerator are also provided in each room. This property is toremain in the room at all times and should not be removed or disassembled in any way. Rooms inPark Village Apartments and furnished townhouses are equally furnished in each bedroom. Thecommon areas are equipped with a couch, chair(s), kitchen table and chairs, and a c<strong>of</strong>fee table.The kitchens are fully equipped with a stove, oven, refrigerator, and dishwasher. Note: Residentsin Park Village are not required to purchase a meal plan.Game EquipmentEach front desk in the traditional halls has a variety <strong>of</strong> games and equipment for resident use.Residents may purchase an activity card which they can use to check out items from the frontdesk staff. Activity card fees go towards the upkeep and acquisition <strong>of</strong> such items for residentuse.GuestsResidents are welcome to have guests visit campus. Guests may stay in the residence facility forno more than two nights consecutively. Residents must register their guests with the residentialfacility staff. Residents must also obtain the permission <strong>of</strong> their roommate(s), if applicable.Guests must sleep on wings/rooms <strong>of</strong> their own gender. Guests must observe all <strong>University</strong>policies and are the responsibility <strong>of</strong> the resident host. Non-registered guests may be asked toleave the residential facility. No guests under the age <strong>of</strong> 18 are permitted in the halls unless theguest is a sibling <strong>of</strong> a resident. Resident’s siblings under the age <strong>of</strong> 18 are permitted only withthe consent <strong>of</strong> the Area Coordinator, Hall Director, or the Director <strong>of</strong> Residence Life.31
