Young children playing outside should be under the immediate supervision <strong>of</strong> an adult orresponsible older child. Please encourage your children to follow the command <strong>of</strong> Jesus, “Do toothers as you would have them do to you” (Matthew 7:12). When engaged in play, kindness inword and deed should be emphasized at all times. If play becomes rough, please remind yourchildren <strong>of</strong> the expectations <strong>of</strong> the community.Cleanliness <strong>of</strong> PropertyAt least semi-annually the Director <strong>of</strong> Residence Life will make health, safety, generalmaintenance, and condition inspections <strong>of</strong> townhouses and apartments owned by the <strong>University</strong><strong>of</strong> <strong>Dubuque</strong> for potential health hazards and maintenance problems. Residents will be expected tomaintain an acceptable degree <strong>of</strong> cleanliness in their dwelling. Housing deposits may be retainedfor cleaning <strong>of</strong> units that are not left in satisfactory condition.Cohabitation PolicyThe Seminary, as an institution <strong>of</strong> the Presbyterian Church (USA), seeks to inculcate practices andvirtues consistent with the faith <strong>of</strong> the church. Those preparing for ministry in the name <strong>of</strong> JesusChrist are to live lives worthy <strong>of</strong> the Gospel <strong>of</strong> Christ. The Seminary holds that members <strong>of</strong> thecommunity are to live in fidelity within the covenant <strong>of</strong> marriage or chastity in singleness. Assuch, cohabitation in <strong>University</strong> housing is prohibited and will result in disciplinary action.Computer AccessAll townhouse units are wired to the <strong>University</strong> computer network. Residents should contact theTechnology HelpDesk for information on connecting to the service. Residents in Potterveldapartments are responsible for establishing their own access. This may be done throughtelephone modems or cable connections.Contract Renewal<strong>Student</strong>s desiring to renew their contract for an additional year must sign a new contract byMay 31 <strong>of</strong> each year. Residents who fail to sign a new contract must vacate their housing unit byMay 31 so a new resident can be assigned. There will be a $100 fine for non-compliance.Contracts and RentThe Office <strong>of</strong> Residence Life will issue contracts for townhouses, houses, and apartments. TheDirector <strong>of</strong> Residence Life has been designated by the <strong>University</strong> to sign all contracts for<strong>University</strong> housing. The term <strong>of</strong> the contract is from the week <strong>of</strong> the month you move in untilthe next May 31. Rent is paid at the <strong>Student</strong> Accounts Office, third floor <strong>of</strong> the Myers Teachingand Administrative Center, and is due the first <strong>of</strong> each month. A year-long rental agreement isavailable through the Office <strong>of</strong> Residence Life.Residents cannot sublet housing space or make special arrangements for accommodation <strong>of</strong>fellow students on their own.110
