Damage to the PropertyThe cost <strong>of</strong> any damage to the <strong>University</strong> housing will be deducted from the resident’s housingdeposit. Residents will be liable for additional cost <strong>of</strong> damage that may exceed the housingdeposit and for damage to other <strong>University</strong> property caused by pets or children. The Office <strong>of</strong>Finance and Auxiliary Services has responsibility for determining the cost <strong>of</strong> damage to<strong>University</strong> property.DepositsA $100 enrollment deposit is required <strong>of</strong> every student (an additional deposit is required <strong>of</strong>distance students). An additional $100 advance housing deposit is required along with acompleted Housing Application <strong>of</strong> any student who requests on campus housing. This will beapplied to the security deposit. A security deposit equal to one month’s rent will be charged fortownhouses or apartments and must accompany signed lease prior to check-in.Security deposit, minus cost <strong>of</strong> damage repair and/or cleaning, will be refunded within 60 days <strong>of</strong>check-out date. The Director <strong>of</strong> Residence Life will verify if proper check-out procedures havebeen followed. The deposit will not be refunded if the student vacates the premises before theend <strong>of</strong> the contract, unless the student withdraws from the program.Fire Equipment and ProceduresFire extinguishers are located in the townhouse kitchen area. Apartments are equipped withsmoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors. Residents are not to tamper with the fireequipment nor are they to use such equipment in any situation other than a genuine emergency.Residents are strongly urged to familiarize themselves and their family members with exit routesfrom their house/apartment building for use in the event <strong>of</strong> fire. In the event <strong>of</strong> a fire that cannot beimmediately contained with fire extinguishers everyone should exit immediately by the quickestpossible route. Immediately call the <strong>Dubuque</strong> Fire Department at 9-911, and then call campussecurity at 563/589-3333.FurnishingsTownhouses for commuter students are furnished with a bed (frame and mattress), desk, chair,closet space, and chest <strong>of</strong> drawers for each student. The shared living space is furnished withdining room table and chairs, living room armchairs, s<strong>of</strong>a, and c<strong>of</strong>fee table. The kitchen isequipped with a refrigerator, electric oven and stove, and dishwasher.Townhouses for families are not furnished. However, townhouses are equipped with a refrigerator,electric oven and stove, dishwasher, window coverings, electric garage door opener andwasher/dryer hook-ups.Under no circumstances may furnishings or appliances be removed from, or exchanged among,housing units without the permission <strong>of</strong> the Director <strong>of</strong> Residence Life.111
