AWEJ Volume.5 Number.4, 2014Fair, Reliable, Valid: Developing a Grammar Test UtilizingEfeotorTableMike3.ItemOrrPerson MatrixThe table does not show a perfect Guttman pattern. An initial look at the matrix immediatelyhighlights a problem with item 6 and item 24. Item 6 is from level 2 of the construct map, yetonly 7 examinees answered the question correctly. However, item 24, which is from level 5 onthe construct map has a facility of 25. Such results threaten the validity of the measurement. Thematrix does however show that the students with less ability tended to get only the easier itemscorrect. This is important for the validity of the test, even if the difficulty of the items does notmatch what was initially expected from the construct map.The concern of the content facet of validity is ―that all the items or tasks as well as the cognitiveprocesses involved in responding to them be relevant and representative of the construct domainto be assessed‖ (Baghaei & Amrahi, 201, p.1052). An item person map (Figure 4) is used to helpprovide evidence for the content facet of validity.Arab World English JournalISSN: 2229-9327www.awej.org214
