Indeed, I see a potential link between social entrepreneurship andclimate change adaptation because governments sometimes havelittle incentive to incorporate adaptation into decision-making, responsibilitiesfor action are often unclear and the potential for profitis not yet evident. I trust therefore that you will explore these linkagesduring your deliberations. ECA will contribute to ensuring apositive outcome on these issues at this meeting given its good trackrecord of work in the area of ICTs, youth and climate change.This GKP meeting is an important pre-event to the Science with AfricaConference not only because they share common objectivesbut also because we cannot talk about strengthening research anddevelopment without sharing knowledge and building partnerships:the two main pillars of GKP.The upcoming Science with Africa Conference is also about promotingthe use of science and technology in the African developmentprocess. Its aims and objectives are however different from thenorm. This Conference is about exploring how African scientists canincrease their collaboration and participation in international scienceinitiatives and research and development projects. Science with Africais more than a Conference in the sense that it has a follow-upmechanism to ensure that African scientists are kept in the picturewith regard to such initiatives and projects. It will also be used tostart off and sustain a constructive dialogue between the scientificcommunity and other stakeholdersIn this regard, we expect Science with Africa to lead to increasedsynergies between African and science-based organisations in otherregions. It should also lead to improved linkages between internationalscientific research programmes and business enterprises toexpedite economic growth in Africa. Another expected outcome isa framework for using science and technology options to supporteconomic progress in Africa;I am confident that the outcomes of this meeting will be translatedinto concrete GKP Africa action plans and projects and that you willcollectively provide the support for their successful implementation.Integrating Africa255
