Acknowledgements<br />

In writ<strong>in</strong>g a thesis I believe a pr<strong>in</strong>ciple objective is for the researcher to come out a<br />

different, stronger person once the process is completed. If <strong>education</strong> is about<br />

anyth<strong>in</strong>g, it is about awaken<strong>in</strong>g oneself to a genu<strong>in</strong>e love of knowledge, a love of<br />

thoughts, and be<strong>in</strong>g able to mould and develop the <strong>in</strong>ner compass to pursue future<br />

change.<br />

For her guidance <strong>in</strong> my journey, I would like to acknowledge and thank my primary<br />

thesis supervisor, Dr. L<strong>in</strong>itā Manu’atu, for her cont<strong>in</strong>ued <strong>in</strong>spiration through the<br />

writ<strong>in</strong>g process. Her unfail<strong>in</strong>g passion for progress and change <strong>in</strong>spired me <strong>in</strong> every<br />

step of this thesis process. Thank you for hear<strong>in</strong>g my voice and encourag<strong>in</strong>g it.<br />

To my secondary supervisor, Jane Bone, thank you for be<strong>in</strong>g the unfl<strong>in</strong>ch<strong>in</strong>g lynchp<strong>in</strong><br />

<strong>in</strong> gett<strong>in</strong>g me to write this thesis first person. The conversations with L<strong>in</strong>itā and<br />

yourself have made me stand strong <strong>in</strong> where I want to be as a researcher and <strong>in</strong> my<br />

desire to pursue my <strong>education</strong> beyond this degree. I will miss our discussions and the<br />

uplifted way I have always felt as a result of them.<br />

To Associate Professor Brian F<strong>in</strong>dsen, who has moved on from AUT, but who gave<br />

me a chance to reach for an <strong>education</strong>al dream that at the time was a seed of desire,<br />

but has today become a reality.<br />

Thank you to all of the <strong>servant</strong> <strong>leaders</strong> who participated <strong>in</strong> the study. Thank you for<br />

devot<strong>in</strong>g your time and voices to this project, and for show<strong>in</strong>g me aga<strong>in</strong> and aga<strong>in</strong> the<br />

mean<strong>in</strong>g of service and what it is to love unconditionally. I hope that I have been a<br />

good steward with the words and feel<strong>in</strong>gs you shared with me. It was your <strong>in</strong>itial<br />

down to earth k<strong>in</strong>dness and energy that sparked the context of this thesis.<br />
