might have <strong>in</strong> check.<br />
In addition to English, I had the option of attend<strong>in</strong>g classes taught <strong>in</strong> Samoan,<br />
Tongan, Niuean, and Ch<strong>in</strong>ese on two of the campuses. These classes taught the same<br />
translated curriculum as all English classes, from class manuals and teacher manuals<br />
approved through the CES headquarters <strong>in</strong> Salt Lake City. As my proficiency is <strong>in</strong><br />
English I only attended classes taught <strong>in</strong> English, and this allowed me to perceive<br />
both the verbal and non-verbal <strong>in</strong>stances of <strong>servant</strong> <strong>leaders</strong>hip <strong>in</strong> practice.<br />
Document analysis<br />
A document analysis took place of documents relat<strong>in</strong>g to <strong>education</strong>, specifically, The<br />
Chartered course of the church <strong>in</strong> <strong>education</strong> (Clark, 1992). In addition, document<br />
analysis extended to teacher manuals relat<strong>in</strong>g to methods of teach<strong>in</strong>g, primarily<br />
Teach<strong>in</strong>g the gospel (Intellectual Reserve, 1994) and Adm<strong>in</strong>ister<strong>in</strong>g appropriately<br />
(Intellectual Reserve, 2003), and other student manuals relat<strong>in</strong>g to CES <strong>in</strong> regards to<br />
<strong>servant</strong> <strong>leaders</strong>hip, primarily Pr<strong>in</strong>ciples of <strong>leaders</strong>hip (Intellectual Reserve, 2001). As<br />
the ma<strong>in</strong> focus of the CES is to teach from the scriptures and words of liv<strong>in</strong>g prophets<br />
conta<strong>in</strong>ed <strong>in</strong> The Old Testament, New Testament, The Book of Mormon, The Pearl of<br />
Great Price, and Doctr<strong>in</strong>e and Covenants, and also the Church’s monthly magaz<strong>in</strong>e<br />
titled The Ensign, this study will also draw from these sources.<br />
Data process<strong>in</strong>g<br />
All participants who elected to do so participated <strong>in</strong> transcript check<strong>in</strong>g follow<strong>in</strong>g<br />
their <strong>in</strong>-depth <strong>in</strong>terview or focus group. A date was given until which time<br />
participants were free to withdraw answers before the data analysis phase began. One<br />
participant elected to partially alter their contribution on one answer due to the<br />
delicate nature of the subject matter discussed. I conducted all transcription of<br />
<strong>in</strong>terviews and focus groups, with this amount<strong>in</strong>g to approximately one hundred and<br />
forty pages of double-spaced, type written pages.<br />
