(Foradditional information, refer to the section onAcademic Regulations and to the section onSpecial Fees for Nonresident Students).THE USE OF VERTEBRATEANIMALS IN RESEARCHThis institution complies with all applicableprovisions of the Animal Welfare Act and otherFederal statutes and regulations concerninganimals. It also complies with the U. S. PublicHealth Service policy on human care and use oflaboratory animals. Its practices are guided bythe U.S. Government Principles for theUtilization and Care of Vertebrate Animals Usedin Testing, Research, and Training.THE PROTECTION OF HUMANSUBJECTS IN RESEARCHThis institution complies with all Federalregulations regarding human subjects inresearch, including those stated in the Code ofFederal Regulations, Department of Health andHuman Services, Title 45 (Public Welfare), Part46: Protection of Human Subjects (revisedMarch 8, 1983).POLICY ON INTELLECTUAL ANDSCIENTIFIC MISCONDUCTIt is the institutional policy of the MayagüezCampus to observe the highest standards ofintellectual and scientific integrity and to pursuethe prosecution of all violations thereof. Thelack of integrity and the perpetration of academicand scientific fraud include plagiarism,falsification, false attribution, and all violationsof the cannons and practices of honesty generallyaccepted in the academic community, alwaysexcepting those which may result frominvoluntary errors or honest differences in theinterpretation or handling of data or information.INSTITUTIONAL POLICY ONSEXUAL HARASSMENTThis institution adheres to the principles andstatutes concerning sexual harassment anddiscrimination because of gender in the areas ofemployment, conduct in the workplace, and theprovision of services. Grievance procedures arespelled out in Circular Letter 88-07 (May 27,1988) of the President of the University ofPuerto Rico and the Administrative BoardCertification #93-94-303 of April 7, 1994.SMOKINGSmoking is forbidden in all enclosed Campusareas, including, but not limited to, classrooms,laboratories, lecture rooms, elevators,auditoriums, offices, museums, and all otherplaces where people regularly meet. Smoking ispermitted in public areas such as open hallwaysand other open spaces.INSTITUTIONAL POLICY ONDRUGSThe University of Puerto Rico pursues avigorous policy in combating the manufacture,distribution, supply, possession, and illegal useof controlled substances within its grounds asdefined by Puerto Rico Law No. 4 of June 23,1971, and further treated in subsequent Federaland Commonwealth legislation.
