Three hours of lecture per week.Prerequisite: ENGL 3211 or ENGL 3011.Development of reading, discussion, and writingskills through the experience, interpretation, andevaluation of the novel, Shakespearean drama,and the complex texture of poetry. A researchpaper related to literary study will be required.ENGL 3225. INTRODUCTION TOLINGUISTICS. Three credit hours. Threehours of lecture per week. Prerequisite: ENGL3202 or ENGL 3104 or ENGL 3212.An introductory survey of linguistics withspecial attention to the English language,emphasizing phonology, morphology, syntax,semantics, historical change, and social andregional variations.ENGL 3227. PHONETICS OF ENGLISH.Three credit hours. Three hours of lecture perweek. Prerequisite: ENGL 3202 or ENGL 3104or ENGL 3212.Articulation, rhythm, and intonation of English,including its phonetic description, transcription,and oral practice in the laboratory.ENGL 3231.
