INTRODUCTION TO AGRO-NEMATOLOGY. Three credit hours. Twohours of lecture and one three-hour laboratoryper week. Prerequisite: BIOL 4015.History, morphology, classification, and lifecycles of nematodes, with emphasis onphytoparasitic extraction from soil and planttissues.CROP 4019. PESTICIDES AND THEIR USEIN AGRICULTURE. Three credit hours. Twohours of lecture and one three-hour laboratoryper week. Prerequisite: CHEM 3061.Studies of pesticides including their chemicalcomposition, their effects as environmentalcontaminants, their mode of action, toxicity anddetermination of their residues. Orientation willbe given on management and disposal, methodsof protecting personnel and pertinent federal andstate legislation regarding pesticides usage.CROP 4025. SUMMER PRACTICUM. Threecredit hours. Thirty hours per week during sixweeks. Prerequisite: Consent of the Director ofthe Department.Field experience supervised by the Departmentalstaff with the collaboration of farmers, privateagricultural industries and governmentalagricultural agencies. A written report will berequired.CROP 4026. SEMINAR. One credit hour.One-hour meeting per week.Review and discussion of the recent literature incrop protection.CROP 4995-4996. SPECIAL PROBLEMS.One to three credit hours per semester. One tothree study and research periods per week.Prerequisite: Consent of the Director of theDepartment.Study and investigation of a specific problem inthe field of crop protection.CROP 4997. SUPERVISED PROFESSIONALOCCUPATIONAL EXPERIENCE FOR COOPSTUDENTS. Three to six credit hours. Aminimum of two practice periods is required, oneof them in a semester. Prerequisites: consent ofthe Director of the Department and to be a CoopProgram student.Practical experience in Crop Protection incooperation with the private sector ofgovernment. To be jointly supervised by theacademic department, the Coop programcoordinator, and an official from the cooperatingentity. A written report will be required uponcompletion of each work period.ADVANCED UNDERGRADUATEAND GRADUATE COURSESCROP 5005. PHYTOPATHOGENIC FUNGI. Threecredit hours. Two hours of lecture and one threehourlaboratory per week. Prerequisite: CROP4006 or consent of the Department Director.Examination of the most interesting groups offungi from the phytopathogenic point of view:their taxonomy, nomenclature, morphology,genetics, host-parasite relationship, physiology,and ecology. Distinctive characteristic ofspecific pathogens. Field trips for collection andobservation are required.CROP 5006. INSECTS OF TROPICALCROPS. Three credit hours. Two hours oflecture and one three-hour laboratory per week.Prerequisite: CROP 4008 or PLSC 4008.Major insects affecting tropical crops; theirbiology and taxonomy; identification of damagesin the field as well as in the laboratory;appropriate measures of control.93
