Two hours of lecture perweek.Principles of personnel and property protectionas applied to agricultural operations and use ofagricultural machinery, with emphasis on thedevelopment of a philosophy of safety as a basisfor effective accident prevention; a criticalreview and analysis of agricultural accidents inPuerto Rico.AGMT 4018. COMPUTER PROGRAMMINGIN AGRICULTURE. Two credit hours. Twohours of lecture per week. Prerequisite: MATH3172.Introductory course to computer technology andprogramming using BASIC language, withemphasis on applications to agriculture.AGMT 4019. FARM DRAINAGE ANDIRRIGATION. Three credit hours. Two hoursof lecture and one three-hour laboratory perweek. Prerequisite: AGRO 3005.Principles of irrigation and drainage of farmlands. Drainage systems, sources of watersupply, water quality. Irrigation distributionsystems: through gravity, sprinkler or trickle.AGMT 4025. AGRICULTURALMACHINERY II. Three credit hours. Prerequisites: AGMT 4009 andAGMT 4015.Further study of agricultural machinery, coveringfertilizing, pest control, harvesting, feedprocessing, and other agricultural machines,including those recently developed; principles ofconstruction and operation, power relationships,maintenance procedures, and economicutilization.AGMT 4026. DAIRY MECHANICS. Threecredit hours. Two hours of lecture and onethree-hour laboratory per week. Prerequisite:ANIN 3005 and (PHCS 3171, or PHCS 3151, orPHCS 3091).Construction, installation, operation, andmanagement of mechanical equipment used indairy enterprises.AGMT 4028. FARM SERVICE BUILDINGS.Three credit hours. Two hours of lecture andone three-hour laboratory per week.Prerequisites: ANIN 3005 and GEEG 3011 and(PHCS 3091 or PHCS 3151 or PHCS 3171).Functional requirements and planning; materialsof construction; construction principles andprocedures, with particular reference to the majortypes of farm service building.AGMT 4029. AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTSPROCESSING. Three credit hours. Two hoursof lecture and one three-hour laboratory perweek. Prerequisite: PHCS 3091 or PHCS 3151or PHCS 3171.Unit operations, equipment, techniques, andprocesses used in handling and preparing farmproducts for marketing, utilization, or storage.AGMT 4035. SOIL AND WATERMANAGEMENT. Four credit hours. Threehours of lecture and one three-hour laboratoryper week. Prerequisites: AGRO 3005 and CIEG4005.Soil-water plant relationships: principles andpractice of irrigation and drainage of farm lands;land improvement by means of mechanicalprocedures, or structures for soil and watermanagement and conservation.AGMT 4036-4037. SEMINAR INMECHANIZED AGRICULTURE. One credithour per semester. One meeting per week eachsemester. Prerequisite: AGMT 4008 or consentof the Director of the Department.Oral reports and discussion concerningexperiences and observations gathered during thesummer field practice.
