Undergraduate Bulletin of Information 2001-2002ACADEMIC REGULATIONS1. Have a GPA not lower than 0.20 below thatrequired.2. Have approved during the last two semesters,at least 12 credits if regular students and sixcredits if part-time students.3. The Registrar will notifythe student and pertinent authorities of thisaction.Students on probation will carry a course load ofnot less than nine nor more than 15 credit hoursper semester if a regular student; and not lessthan three nor more than six credit hours persemester if a part-time student. They must alsomaintain the number of credit hours requiredunder the probation status.After a year on probation, students must:1. Comply with the minimum GPA.2. Attain the minimum accumulation of credithours required for good standing status.3. Satisfactorily complete more than half thecredit hours registered during the academicyear.Students who comply with only two of the threecriteria stated above will be on probation foranother year. Students who do not comply withat least two of these criteria in the first year onprobation or those who do not comply with allthree criteria in the second year on probation willbe dismissed from the University of Puerto Rico,Mayagüez Campus.Dismissed students not eligible for probation willnot be able to continue with their studies duringthe following year. Students must apply forreadmission after at least one year of academicsuspension during the period of time establishedin the academic calendar. The applications willbe evaluated by the Committee on ScholasticAchievement. Readmitted students will beplaced on academic probation and will besubjected to the established norms.GRADUATION REQUIREMENTSThe University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus,reserves the right to make changes in the differentcurricula and degree requirements whenever, in itsjudgment, these are considered beneficial for theinstitution. As a rule, a student is entitled to begraduated under the curriculum requirements inforce at the time of his or her entrance to theinstitution and should consult his/her department toobtain copy of its specific requirements uponenrollment. However, a student who fails to fulfillthe graduation requirements within the timeframeassigned to his/her corresponding curriculum and astudent who re-enrolls after a period of absence aregoverned by the requirements applicable to theclass with which they graduate.To receive a degree, students must satisfy thefollowing conditions:(a) Have passed the prescribed courseswith a minimum GPA of 2.00. Studentswith a GPA of 3.00 to 3.32 inclusivegraduate with honors (Cum Laude) andthose who achieve 3.33 or over, graduatewith high honors (Magna Cum Laude). Inorder to be eligible for graduation withhonors or high honors, students must havecompleted at least 50% of the credit hoursrequired for graduation at this institution.(b) Have taken the final 28 credits for theirdegree at the University of Puerto Rico,Mayagüez Campus, with the understandingthat these credits are required for the last56
