Prerequisite: Fifthyear student or consent of the Director of theDepartment.The significance of architecture in relation toculture, the development of constructiontechnology, and to the sociopolitical structure ofthe times. Relationship between the architectand the civil engineer in modern society.Elements of architectural design. Architecturalanalysis of different types of buildings.Anatomy of the building.CIEG 4001. SURVEYING I. Three credithours. One hour of lecture and two two-hourperiods of laboratory of computation per week.Prerequisites: GEEG 3012 and (MATH 3032 orMATH 3184).Measurement of distances, angles and elevation,the transit and the level; measurement andcomputation of traverses; stadia surveying.CIEG 4002. SURVEYING II. Three credithours. One hour of lecture and two two-hourperiods of laboratory or computation per week.Prerequisite: CIEG 4001. Corequisite: GEEG3016.Random errors, basic triangulation, meridiandetermination, coordinate systems, topography.CIEG 4005. AGRICULTURAL SURVEYING.Three credit hours. Two hours of lecture andone-three hour laboratory per week.Prerequisites: GEEG 3011 and (MATH 3172 orMATH 3174 or MATH 3005 or MATH 3143).Use and care of surveying instruments;measurement of distances, angles, areas, andvolumes; subdivision of land; differential andprofile leveling, topographic surveying andmapping, interpretation of aerial photographs;elements of legal land surveying.CIEG 4006. SURVEYING PRACTICE. Twocredit hours. One session of fifteen workingdays of field work. Prerequisite: CIEG 4002.Execution of field work, computation anddrawing in relation to land surveying andsubdivision, topographical maps, leveling, routesurveys, triangulation, and determination of truemeridian.272
