ACADEMIC REGULATIONS Undergraduate Bulletin of Information 2001-2002TRANSFER STUDENTS FROM ANOTHERCAMPUS OF THE UNIVERSITY OFPUERTO RICOStudents from other units of the University ofPuerto Rico may also apply for transfer.Applicants must meet the followingrequirements:1. Must apply for transfer through the Office ofthe Registrar of the unit concerned, inaccordance with the dates stipulated by theCentral Administration of the University ofPuerto Rico.2. Have a minimum of 48 approved credit hourstowards the program to which admission wasoriginally granted.3. Meet other academic requirements specified bythe program of interest.4. Pay a nonrefundable fee of ($19.00).The Mayagüez Campus reserves the right to granttransfers according to the capacity in the differentcolleges, departments, or options.EARLY ADMISSION PROGRAMThe Admissions Office has established an EarlyAdmission Program for those students that haverequested Admission to the Mayaguez Campusand comply with certain criteria. The studentswill be able to register in specially designedsummer courses at our Campus.The criteria which the students have to complywith, are the following:• General Point Average of 3.50/4.00• 1,300 points or more in the Mathematics andVerbal parts of the Scholastic Aptitude Testadministered by the College EntranceExamination Board• Compliance with the General Admission Indexestablished by each CollegeLANGUAGE OF INSTRUCTIONSpanish is the language of instruction in mostcourses, but students are required to have aworking knowledge of the English language aswell. The individual professor decides thelanguage used in his or her lectures and studentevaluation activities.REGISTRATIONRegistration procedures are made available bythe Office of the Registrar prior to eachenrollment period. Students are required toregister according to the published schedule.New students are required to turn in theirAdmission Certificates in order to receiveregistration materials. They are also required tocomply with the requirements of the HealthService Department prior to registration. Noncompliance will result in cancellation of theenrollment authorization.Registration is neither complete nor valid untilthe student has paid all tuition and related fees tothe Bursar's Office. Students must attend thecourses in which they are registered. Failure todo so will result in a grade of F in the course.Students are also held responsible for thefulfillment of the academic obligations asspecified in their program of studies.CLASSIFICATION OF STUDENTSStudents at the Mayagüez Campus are classifiedin one of the following categories:(a) Regular students: those who have fulfilledthe entrance requirements to this Campus, arecandidates for a degree, and are carrying anacademic course load of at least 12 credithours.(b) Part-time students: those who have fulfilledall entrance requirements to this Campus, arecandidates for a degree, and are carrying anacademic course load of less than 12 credithours.(c) Auditor students: those who, regardless ofwhether or not they fulfill admissionrequirements, do not intend to earn a degree.They attend classes with the permission ofthe head of the department, the professor ofthe course, and the Registrar. These studentswill not take exams nor receive grades orcredit for work done in a course.(d) Transient students: those who, regardless ofwhether or not they fulfill the requirementsfor admission to the Mayagüez Campus ofthe University of Puerto Rico, have beenauthorized by other institutions to attendclasses at this campus.
