Prerequisites: PHCS 4051 and METE4007.Radiation, radiation measurements,meteorological optics, atmospheric electricity,and dynamics of the atmosphere.PHYSICAL SCIENCEPHSC 3011-3012. PHYSICAL SCIENCE. Threecredit hours per semester. Three hours of lectureper week per semester. Co-requisite: MATH3171 or consent of the Director of theDepartment.To introduce the students to the major conceptswhich science has formed of the natural worldand to provide a balanced and coherentpresentation of the more important theories ofphysical science; to give students anacquaintance with scientific methods, and toshow the relationship of science to other fields ofknowledge. The major areas cover the solarsystem, matter, energy, the structure of matter,elementary concepts of geology, and elements ofweather. The lectures are supplemented withdemonstrations, slides, films, filmstrips, andfield trips.DEPARTMENT OFSOCIAL SCIENCESThe Department of Social Sciences wasestablished in 1960 as a result of the merging ofthe School of Sciences and the Division ofGeneral Studies into the College of Arts andSciences.208
COLLEGE OF ARTS AND SCIENCES Undergraduate Bulletin of Information 2001-2002As a unit within the College of Arts andSciences, the Department collaborates in theacademic preparation of individuals in makingindependent choices and participating effectivelyin public decisions that affect the community andthe society as a whole.In order to achieve the afforementioned goals,the Department provides programs leading to theBachelor of Arts degree in several areas in thesocial sciences for persons who will enter publicservice or will pursue graduate studies.
