Prerequisites: consent ofthe Director of the Department and to be a COOPstudent.Practical experience in animal management andproduction and/or animal products in cooperationwith the private sector or government. Twohours of lecture and one three-hour laboratoryper week. Prerequisites: ANIN 3005 and (BIOL4015 or BIOL 3022 or BIOL 3052).Morphology, life cycle, and control of farmanimals' parasites.ANIN 5355. ADVANCED BEEKEEPING.Three credit hours. Two hours of lecture andone three-hour laboratory per week.Prerequisite: ANIN 4016.Commercial Management of Apiaries. Thecourse includes the production of queen bees,and the various methods used to obtain honeyand to extract the wax.ANIN 5357. SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGYOF FRESH MEATS. Three credit hours. Twohours of lecture and one four-hour laboratory perweek. Prerequisite: ANIN 4005 or Consent ofthe Director of the Department.Principles and practices in the handling,processing and preservation of beef, pork, andpoultry meats.DEPARTMENT OF CROPPROTECTIONThe Department of Crop Protection offers aprogram of instruction leading to the degree ofBachelor of Science in Agriculture withspecialization in Crop Protection. TheDepartment program emphasizes the effectiveuse and application of agricultural technology inthe fields of crop protection. It integrates thefunction of resident instruction, research andextension in the discipline of entomology,nematology, phytopathology, and weed sciencein a global approach aimed at protecting cropplant health.The first year of the study program in cropprotection is the same as in most of the otherundergraduate curricula in Agricultural Sciences.Specialization gradually begins during thesecond year. The student, in consultation withhis or her advisor, selects 12 credits ofprofessional electives and 12 of free electives.The professional electives are chosen mainlyfrom the Crop Protection Department courseofferings.90
