Enrolled NursesAlso called nurse technician orassociate nurse. Education lastabout 3 to 4 years and leads to anaward not equivalent to a universityfirst degree (post-secondary school).Common nursing skills. They canperform simple as well as complexmedical procedures and usuallyoperate under the supervision ofprofessional registered nurses orphysicians.Associate NursesEducation lasts 2 years post-secondaryschool and leads to an intermediateuniversity degree award, not equivalentto a university first degree. Nursesgraduated from intermediate collegecan continue their university studiesunder specific conditions. Commonnursing skills. They can perform simpleas well as complex medical proceduresand usually operate under thesupervision of professional registerednurses.Auxiliary nursesAlso called assistants. Some trainingin secondary school. A period of onthe-jobtraining may be included,and sometimes formalized inapprenticeships. Basic nursing skills,no training in nursing decisionmaking.Assistant NursesEducation lasts 18 months postpreparatory or secondary school.Teaching had been performed withinschools affiliated with public hospitals.This program was stopped in1998.Basic and common nursing skills.They can perform simple medicalprocedures and usually operate underthe supervision of professionalregistered nurses.Nurse AidesSecondary school (nursing branch) andon-job training.
