Experts’ views on Web 2.0 tools<br />

Focus: the aim of this session is <strong>for</strong> teachers to learn about different aspects of Web 2.0 tools in depth and to<br />

raise their awareness of the powerful possibilities as well as the risks and limitations of these tools in education.<br />

By learning about the personal but also the social and legal impact of using Web 2.0 tools, teachers investigate<br />

whether their students usually respect or disregard human rights when they use these tools at school and at<br />

home in their everyday life.<br />

Target group: pre-/in-service teachers of age groups 6-10/10-14/14-18/adult learners<br />

Type of activity: Core/main activity<br />

PROCEDURE<br />

Introduction (30 minutes)<br />

1. A short introduction about the aims of the session is provided.<br />

2. Mind-mapping the results of the questionnaire filled in by the participants’ students prior to the session<br />

is done. Impressions are gathered, put on a poster and discussed.<br />

Step 1 (reading and/or viewing – 30 minutes)<br />

1. Participants read and/or view three experts’ opinions on the risks of Web 2.0 tools <strong>for</strong> students.<br />

2. While they do this, they have to take notes to be able to answer the following questions.<br />

What is the focus of the experts’ activity?<br />

Which particular points of Web 2.0 are under investigation?<br />

What kind of illegal and harmful activities are students able to follow on the Internet?<br />

The three suggested passages/videos should be the following.<br />

A text or a short video with a police expert who specialises in investigations on the Internet could<br />

be about Internet crime.<br />
