Project Area Recommendations Windmill Gateway Project Area Priority Rankings Must-Do’s – Safety/Regulatory Items • Clean up and mitigate damage from September 2013 flooding (remove contaminated soil, dead plant material and the damaged gateway sign) Low-Cost, High-Impact Projects • Use volunteer hours to install new plant material, mulch , groundcover and edging Medium & Large Projects • Create a concrete pathway connection to the existing sidewalk along Highway 60 • Install gateway signage (including lighting and electrical) Estimated Total Project Cost (including 20% contingency): $453,966 Windmill Gateway Project Area Design Description As one of the most visible and important entryways into downtown Milliken, Windmill Gateway and the stretch of Highway 60 leading into downtown are two of the most important image-making areas for the Town. After damage from the floods, the existing Windmill Gateway requires restoration, which presents an opportunity to rehabilitate the landscape and signage to reflect the new Milliken brand and call to action. Along Highway 60, design improvements include linear bands of shrubs and trees that echo the even rows of planted fields, and areas to add public art. Chapter 3: Recommendations 31
