Project Area Recommendations Fireman’s Park Landscape Improvements Project Area Priority Rankings Must-Do’s – Safety/Regulatory Items • Research the need for improvements to the drainage channel within the park area, as well as the size and design of the culvert that runs under Broad Street (during stakeholder discussions it was pointed out that the sidestreet becomes slick and mossy where the water drains into the street) Low-Cost, High-Impact Projects • Install decorative art panels in place of the existing tubular steel culvert fencing Medium & Large Projects • Adjust site grades and install park improvements Estimated Total Project Cost (including 20% contingency): $114,880 Fireman’s Park Landscape Improvements Project Area <strong>Design</strong> Description Currently an overflow area for excess runoff, Fireman’s Park is located at the western edge of downtown <strong>Milliken</strong> and marks am important transition from the auto-centric landscape of Highway 60 to Broad Street’s walkable core. Although small, Fireman’s Park improvements could provide a small pocket of designed green adjacent to Broad Street. The small wooden gazebo and ornamental shrub beds provide an opportunity to create a tranquil demonstration garden space adjacent to the Fire House parking lot. A gravel pathway connects the Fire Station to Broad Street, and encourages firefighters to use the park for outdoor lunches and coffee breaks. Potential themes for the park include: Firefighter’s Memorial, Lavender Demonstration Garden, Low- Water Demonstration Garden, Pollinator/Bee Garden, or Cutting Garden. Chapter 3: Recommendations 57
