CHAPTER 5
Learning Theory
What is behaviorism?
It is a learning theory based on the idea
that behavior is a product of learning
through association or reinforcement.
ASSOCIATIVE LEARNING VS NONASSOCIATIVE LEARNING
What is associative learning?
What are associative learning processes?
What is nonassociative learning?
What are nonassociative learning
processes?
Learning that occurs when a connection
or pairing is made between a particular
stimulus and a particular response
Classical conditioning
Operant conditioning
Nonassociative learning describes
behavior change as a result of
presentation of one stimulus repeatedly.
It also describes learning which has no
association with an end stimulus (such
as a reward or punishment).
Observational learning
Habituation
Sensitization
Associative Learning
Imprinting
What is imprinting?
Imprinting describes learning that
happens at a specific (usually early)
developmental stage. It is usually rapid
and is unrelated to the consequences of
the behavior being learned. During this
time, the animal or person imitates the
behavior of another stimulus.
