Stephen Tulloch signed a one-year contract with
the Eagles on August 23, 2016, after spending the
previous five seasons with the Detroit Lions. Tulloch
was originally drafted by Tennessee in the fourth
round in 2006 and has played under Eagles defensive
coordinator Jim Schwartz both in Tennessee and
Detroit. The 11-year veteran has played in every
game of his NFL career with the exception of his 2014
season, which was cut short due to a knee injury.
CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
• Finished as Detroit’s leading tackler in four of his
five seasons with the club (2011-13, 2015), recording
at least 100 tackles in each of those campaigns
• Led the Titans defense in tackles in 2009 and
2010. His career-high 169 tackles in 2010 is still
the highest total for the Titans since Keith Bulluck
recorded 171 in 2004
BIRDSEED
• Inspired by his mother, Mercedes, a single mother
who raised Stephen and his seven older brothers
and sisters while working as a nurse. “She always
found ways to help others despite all that she was
going through. That carried with me as I began my
NFL career.” As a result, he began the The Stephen
Tulloch Foundation in 2009. The foundation helps
underprivileged youth with opportunities to be successful
and works to provide them with the same
opportunities as other children. His goal is to supply
youth with the essentials to build self-esteem,
establish their goals, and help unlock their potential.
• His support of cancer initiatives through his foundation
is inspired in part by his high school teammate,
John Jerret, who passed away from cancer
when Tulluch was just 18. “It really woke me up and
I knew from that moment on that I wanted to pay it
forward in honor of him.”
• Attended N.C. State with four of his high school
teammates - three of which who went on to be
drafted in the NFL (he, Andre Maddox, Pat Thomas)
• Grew up admiring many undersized linebackers
such as Mike Singletary, London Fletcher, Zach
Thomas and Dexter Coakley. “I would watch highlights
and would Google them every week to see
how they played”
• Began playing football at the age of 5 for the Kendall
Hammocks Warriors as a running back
THE LITTLE LINEBACKER
Tulloch launched a
children’s book that he
wrote with Maria Dismondy
in 2015. “Growing
up I was always told
I was too small or too
slow to make it to the
next level of football
and I thought that sharing
my story through a
children’s book would
be a great way to inspire
young children”
