A lifelong fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, Vinny Curry
has emerged as a valuable pass-rushing threat in
the Eagles defensive line rotation, signing a five-year
contract in 2016 that will keep him in Philadelphia
through 2020. In 2014, Curry provided quality
production off the bench as he set career highs in
sacks (nine) and forced fumbles (four). Selected in
the second round in 2012, Curry was named the 2011
Conference USA Defensive Player of the Year as a
senior after posting 11 sacks, seven forced fumbles
and 22 tackles for a loss.
BIRDSEED
• Wears No. 75 in remembrance of the 75 lives that
were lost in the 1970 Marshall plane crash. “I want
to show appreciation for what Marshall meant to
me and the great tradition I was part of.”
• Grieving the loss of a loved one is a distressing
time for anyone and following up a tragic loss with
an appearance in an emotionally-charged football
game can be overwhelming. As challenging as it
was, Vinny Curry did just that. On October 14, 2011,
Curry attended his mother’s funeral. On October 15,
the very next day, he joined his Marshall teammates
and defeated conference rival Rice at home, 24-20.
Curry had arguably the greatest game of his career
as he posted nine tackles, 3.5 sacks and a forced
fumble. His performance earned him the FWAA/
Bronko Nagurski National Defensive Player of the
Week award
• Has only been left starstruck
once in his life. At WrestleMania
32, Curry had the rare
opportunity to meet his
childhood wrestling idol, Ric
Flair
2016 HIGHLIGHTS
• Is tied for third on the team with nine QB hurries
• Registered a half sack of Seahawks QB Russell
Wilson in the third quarter at Sea. (11/20)
• Brought down Lions QB Matthew Stafford at Det.
(10/9) to notch his first sack of the season
PERSONAL
• Grew up as a huge fan of the Eagles. “It all started
with Ricky Watters. I originally wanted to play
running back and he was my favorite player. After
that, I just loved rooting for them, I have pictures
and jerseys all over my house. It was such a special
moment for me to get drafted by the team I’ve
rooted for all my life.”
• A standout performer at Neptune (NJ) High School
who garnered first-team All-State, All-Shore, All-
County and All-Conference honors. Was named
team MVP and team captain at Neptune
• His pregame ritual consists of watching YouTube
clips of great players. “I used to watch Warren
Sapp, Jevon Kearse, Hugh Douglas; all those guys.”
• Began playing football as a running back when he
was 8, but quickly switched to the defensive side
of the ball. Says his favorite part about playing the
game is the excitement of making a big play in front
of the crowd
