Trey brings you the rare combination
of a special teams player: He brings
you the speed, he has the agility, he
plays with the aggressiveness and he
has the athletic ability. That’s what you
want out of your special teams players.
- Former Eagles LB and Pro Bowl Special Teamer
Ike Reese
A versatile threat in the collegiate ranks, Trey Burton
originally signed with the Eagles as a rookie free
agent during the 2014 offseason. Burton has been a
key member of the Eagles special teams units in his
first two seasons, as he recorded a blocked punt and
a blocked punt touchdown return in 2014, and led the
team with 19 special teams tackles in 2015.
BIRDSEED
• Works out during the offseason with teammate
Nelson Agholor and his brother, Clay Burton, at the
Performance Compound in Tampa, FL
• Went on a mission trip to Africa in summer 2012
and lists future trips as an item on his bucket list
• Has a great appreciation for Philadelphia’s history
and enjoys exploring the city in his free time. “I
was never exposed to anything like this when I was
growing up,” explains Burton
• Claims the biggest influences on his life were a trio
of mentors: his late grandfather, John McClintock,
and two of his high school coaches, John Peacock
and Larry Shannon. Trey grew up without a father
in his life and these three men helped fill that void.
“They kept me going in the right direction,” said
Burton. “I didn’t have a father growing up, so they
were my father figures through high school. If I ever
needed anything or need anything to this day, I can
always go to them and ask for anything.”
• Burton’s athleticism runs in his bloodlines, as
his grandfather, Lawrence Burton, was the seventh-overall
selection in the 1975 NFL Draft and
also sprinted for Team USA in the 1972 Summer
Olympics in Munich. Lawrence split time with New
Orleans and San Diego during a five-year NFL career,
hauling in 44 catches for 804 yards and seven
TDs. Additionally, he placed fourth for the United
States in Munich in the 200-meter final
• Runs a summer football camp in his hometown of
Venice, FL
• As the son of a single mother, Trey hopes to get
involved in charities that focus on helping children
who grow up without fathers
