PERSONAL
• Son of Lisa and Douglas Ertz and is the oldest of four children.
Lisa is an office manager and legal assistant, and Doug is a software
salesman
• His father, Douglas, played football at Lehigh University from
1981-84 and his uncle, David, played baseball at the University
of Vermont from 1970-72
• Has three younger brothers: Shane, Nic, and Jackson
• Has a Bernese Mountain dog named Apollo
• Graduated from Monte Vista High School in Danville, CA, where
he was a first-team all-state selection as a senior after catching
56 passes for 756 yards and 14 touchdowns
• Garnered All-Northern California first-team honors from Nor-
CalPreps.com, first-team All-Metro honors from the San Francisco
Chronicle, All-East Bay honors from the Contra Costa
Times and was a first-team All-East Bay Athletic League choice
as a senior
• Named the 2008 Cal-Hi Sports North Coast Section Scholar Athlete
of the Year

GREEN AND SILVER SLUGGER
Ertz took his skills the baseball field as he captured
the Eagles annual batting practice competition title at
Citizens Bank Park in 2016. Ertz won a hotly-contested
final round over fellow Eagles tight end Trey Burton.
Other participants included 2015 champion Jon Dorenbos,
head coach Doug Pederson, Bennie Logan, Chris
Maragos, Donnie Jones, and Chase Daniel
LEARNING FROM THE BEST
During high school, Ertz was tutored by four-time Pro Bowl
tight end Brent Jones. Jones helped coach the team and paid
special attention to Ertz. “He was big and had a lot of athleticism,”
Jones said. “He thought he was a basketball player.
After the first month, I told him, ‘You have what the NFL is
looking for. If you put in the time and effort you can play at the
pro level.’” Jones saw Stanford as the best fit for his pupil and
contacted then-Cardinal head coach Jim Harbaugh. Although
Ertz suffered a broken wrist early in his junior season, Stanford
arrived with a scholarship offer, which Ertz accepted.
