3.1 Which <strong>SuDS</strong><br />
components are<br />
suitable for <strong>London</strong>?<br />
<strong>SuDS</strong> are a comb<strong>in</strong>ation of components<br />
on and off-site that make the most of<br />
the benefits described <strong>in</strong> Chapter 1. This<br />
chapter expla<strong>in</strong>s the <strong>SuDS</strong> components<br />
that may be appropriate for use <strong>in</strong> <strong>London</strong>.<br />
<strong>SuDS</strong> use a variety of components to<br />
manage water quality and volume and<br />
deliver amenity and biodiversity. An<br />
understand<strong>in</strong>g of topography and local<br />
surface water discharge options are<br />
critical <strong>in</strong> identify<strong>in</strong>g the most suitable<br />
comb<strong>in</strong>ation of components, with<br />
particular attention to:<br />
• Where the ra<strong>in</strong>water lands and<br />
how it is collected (source)<br />
• Identify<strong>in</strong>g conveyance options (pathway)<br />
• Determ<strong>in</strong><strong>in</strong>g the most appropriate<br />
discharge po<strong>in</strong>ts (receptor)<br />
In general, <strong>SuDS</strong> should ‘th<strong>in</strong>k upstream’<br />
and take advantage of specific upstream<br />
