Before<br />
Objectives<br />
Streatham Common South falls with<strong>in</strong> the<br />
Streatham Critical Dra<strong>in</strong>age Area (CDA).<br />
The project <strong>in</strong>cluded implementation of<br />
a ra<strong>in</strong> garden to alleviate flood risk and<br />
was completed with<strong>in</strong> a standard highway<br />
ma<strong>in</strong>tenance scheme.<br />
Outcome<br />
Pavement <strong>SuDS</strong>, where <strong>in</strong>serted with<br />
verges, replaced concrete dished channels.<br />
These slow surface water dra<strong>in</strong>age <strong>in</strong>to<br />
the sewer system. Model<strong>in</strong>g undertaken<br />
has shown that the grass verge can<br />
theoretically remove 6m of surface<br />
water runoff <strong>in</strong> a one <strong>in</strong> 100 year, six-hour<br />
storm event.<br />
