Project description<br />
Upm<strong>in</strong>ster Bridge Station serves the<br />
District L<strong>in</strong>e and is 3.5km west of the<br />
M25. The adjacent River Ingrebourne<br />
is vulnerable to flood<strong>in</strong>g and has been<br />
deemed an at-risk river by the<br />
Environment Agency. The river is with<strong>in</strong><br />
the sub-catchment area of the l<strong>in</strong>e and<br />
to a lesser extent, nearby roads, with<br />
implications for both pollution and bank<br />
stabilisation of the River Ingrebourne and<br />
reliability of the l<strong>in</strong>e.<br />
A <strong>London</strong> Underground Power Upgrade<br />
Project, <strong>in</strong>volv<strong>in</strong>g the construction of a<br />
new substation, presented the opportunity<br />
to trial an experimental <strong>SuDS</strong> scheme. This<br />
<strong>in</strong>cluded two swales with associated tanks<br />
and v-notch weirs. One receives water<br />
from the new substation roof, the other<br />
from adjacent <strong>London</strong> Underground tracks.<br />
Fund<strong>in</strong>g was provided by the Environment<br />
Agency with a <strong>London</strong> Underground<br />
Limited contribution <strong>in</strong> k<strong>in</strong>d.<br />
