106 Deploying and Managing IP over WDM Networks
• Delete task UC. A task is deleted from the task list of the scheduler.
• Modify task UC. A task is modified in the task list of the scheduler.
functionality.
6.4.2.3 NP
As far as NP is concerned, we consider three types of operation—automatic,
semiautomatic, and manual. In automatic mode, the user (SMS or WINMAN
operator) just requests a connection between two or more end points with a set
of constraints. The system calculates all paths that connect the end points
according to the constraints and selects the best one. In semiautomatic mode,
the system works just like in automatic mode, but instead of choosing the best
path by itself, it lets the WINMAN operator do it. In the manual mode of
operation the WINMAN operator designs the path. WINMAN then validates
the path checking if it really connects the end points and whether it can guarantee
the bandwidth and QoS-requested parameters.
WINMAN Support for Connectivity
WINMAN supports two types of connectivity services:
1. IP connectivity relating to the setting up and maintenance of end-to-end
IP paths. This type of connectivity service is available in all operational
modes as specified earlier and can be managed by both the WINMAN
operator and the service management system. IP connectivity is
