Evaluation of IP over WDM Management Solutions 205
This experiment scenario is related to the scenarios that show the GUI
functionality and is part of the scenario showing interdomain connectivity
functionality.
11.4.3 Configuration Management/Network Provisioning/ICS Provisioning
Different end-user services (MoIP, VoIP, and VPN) will require different connectivity
services from the network. This experiment will prove that the NMS
solution is able to accept and process a VPN service. Table 11.2 shows the specific
aspects of this experiment.
Experiment Template for Testing the ICS Provisioning
Priority High
Objectives The NMS serves a request from an SMS for the provisioning of IP network
connectivity that supports the VPN service to the end users. The
NMS system will show its flow-through provisioning capability (i.e.,
that the request will be processed fully automatically from request
reception to service operational). The operability of the service will be
made visible by means of end-user applications making use of the network
connections. The data stored in the NMS databases will be
checked for validity and consistency. The flow-through provisioning
capability is one of the main features of the solution, which makes this
experiment very significant.
Background A company having several sites spread over the country wants to interconnect
the LANs of each site via an IP network with high-speed connections,
a high security level, and determined QoS. The solution will
be an IP-based VPN. The VPN must support real-time and nonreal-time
services. The SMS system orders the network connectivity over an
interface, which is a publicly specified interface.
Required tools End-user applications that generate traffic that will flow over the provisioned
network connections and traffic analyzers that can measure the
QoS parameters of the user flows.
Required infrastructure An IP over WDM network as described in Chapter 10.
Expected outcome The IP connectivity is delivered through the network. The end-user applications
are able to make use of the delivered network services. The
performance of the network connections will be measured by means of
IP traffic analyzers and will be reflected by the quality perception of the
end-user applications.
