8.4.1 The Inventory Model The inventory has two views: a physical one and a logical one. In technologydependent NMSs (IP-NMS and WDM-NMS), both physical and logical presentations exist side by side. The physical presentation includes the subnetwork, the managed elements (like routers or OADMs), and equipment such as cards, chassis, and PTPs. The logical view presentation includes the subnetwork connections, services, and CTPs. This is an extendable model that can be augmented to support any other type of network technology. The INMS inventory only has connections and services. However, in order to have a full view of the connection, the entities that create the connection, which are end points and links, are mirrored from the IP-NMS and WDN-NMS inventory components in the INMS inventory. 8.4.2 Querying the Inventory Management System Design and Implementation Issues 145 The inventory supports three interfaces towards other components, as shown in Figure 8.4.
