are propagated to the INMS inventory manager whenever a new object is created
or deleted.
8.8.2 IP and WDM NMS Adaptations
In order not to restrain the WINMAN system to any proprietary interface
between the NML and EML, the WINMAN solution follows the TMF,
MTNM NML-EML interface specification [6]. Consequently, the SIM of the
IP-NMS and the WDM-NMS supports this specification. As this specification
is not yet finalized, it is worth mentioning that we used its May 2001 release.
The MTNM interface specification covers many management fields (configuration,
connection, fault, performance, protection, equipment, and security)
of the NML-EML communication, not all of which are under the scope of the
configuration management area treated in this book. Thus, a selection of the
MTNM-specified interfaces and operations were made. Specifically, only the
MTNM interfaces depicted in Figure 8.8 were used in the current implementation
(Figure 8.9).
Moreover, this specification covers only ATM, SDH, and the WDM technology
domains and not IP/MPLS. For that purpose, an adaptation of those
interfaces/operations was made through the use of the generic information fields
provided by the MTNM and the following adoptions:
