cantons also hallowed their struggle for the Gospel<br />

by an oath. The Hungarian Protestants followed<br />

this example. In 1561 the nobles, citizens, and<br />

troops <strong>in</strong> Erlau bound themselves by oath not to<br />

forsake the truth, and circulated their Covenant <strong>in</strong><br />
