mentioned above, compendiously styled the<br />

"Westm<strong>in</strong>ster Standards." There will be only one<br />

op<strong>in</strong>ion respect<strong>in</strong>g the logical fearlessness and<br />

power, the theological comprehensiveness, and the<br />

<strong>in</strong>tellectual grandeur of these monuments. The<br />

collected genius and piety of the age -- if we may<br />

not call it the first, yet hardly <strong>in</strong>ferior to the first<br />

age of England's <strong>Protestantism</strong> -- were brought to<br />

the construction of them. They have <strong>in</strong>fluenced less<br />

the country <strong>in</strong> which they had their birth than they<br />

have done other lands. Dur<strong>in</strong>g the succeed<strong>in</strong>g years<br />

they have been mold<strong>in</strong>g the op<strong>in</strong>ions of<br />

<strong>in</strong>dividuals, and <strong>in</strong>spir<strong>in</strong>g the creed of Churches, <strong>in</strong><br />

all palaces of the world. They are felt as plastic<br />

agencies wherever the English scepter is swayed or<br />

the English tongue is spoken; nor are there yet any<br />

decided signs that their supremacy is about to pass<br />

away.<br />
