the ridiculous calumny that the Scots sold their<br />

k<strong>in</strong>g. It has s<strong>in</strong>ce been abundantly proved that<br />

the 400,000 pounds paid to the Scots were due<br />

to them for service <strong>in</strong> the campaign. and for<br />

delivery of the fortresses which they held on<br />

the Border, and that this matter was arranged<br />

five months before the question of the disposal<br />

of the k<strong>in</strong>g's person was decided, with which<br />

<strong>in</strong>deed it had no connection.<br />
