IDEAL FOR ANYONE WITH A FEW DAYS TO SPARE.
One of the world’s most favourite
cities, Kuala Lumpur, only 2 hours
away from Bangkok, has an array
of cultural and artistic attractions
that show modernity can exist side
by side with tradition. One can have
too much fun even on a short visit.
I kicked off my 3-day trip with a
visit to Jalan Sultan Ismail, known
for its street foods of different
culinary cultures. Sated with the
food, I headed to Bukit Bintang, the
shopping and entertainment district
of the city, with lots of designer
labels, brand-name goods and other
products for every budget type.
After hours of dining and
shopping, I got to the 88-storey
Mughal Magnificence in
Kuala Lumpur
Petronas Twin Towers, the city’s
iconic landmark. At night, the
towers tend to attract the crowds
when the fountains in the park
dance to the sound of music as a
spectacular light show turns the
towers into a surreal mix of reality
and fantasy.
My first destination on the
second day was Batu Caves, a series
of caves that are interconnected and
span 400 metres. The caves host a
Hindu temple with a gigantic statue
of Lord Murugan, a Hindu deity,
standing guard over the entrance.
Perched atop a hill, the temple is
accessed via the 272 steps up the
stairway. Once on the hilltop, visitors
are rewarded with the stunning
scenery.
After the temple tour, a train ride
back into the city brought me to
Merdeka Square. While walking to the
destination, I stumbled upon rows
of colourful buildings that line both
sides of Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman.
Part of a conservation area, these
heritage structures, known for their
unique pre-World War 2 architecture,
are a veritable visual feast.
Also worth visiting in Merdeka
Square is the Sultan Abdul Samad
Building that’s famed for its Moorish
architecture with an imposing clock
tower. Another must-see attraction
is Masjid Jamek that’s located at the
confluence of the Klang and Gombak River.
The mosque impresses with its Indian Muslim
Mughal architectural style of northern India.
On my last day, I visited the Kuala
Lumpur Railway Station whose fairytale
architecture is a fusion of Indian, Arab and
Western architectural styles. Visitors are
drawn to the station simply because it’s
considered one of the world’s most beautiful
railway stations. Then, don’t forget to check
out the Blue Mosque, Malaysia’s biggest and
most beautiful, with its massive blue dome
and towering minarets at the four corners.
The lavishly decorated interior displays
traditional Malaysian motifs. I wrapped up
my trip with a visit to the pink-domed Putra
Mosque that’s located right on the scenic
Putrajaya Lake. Besides the dome, the
mosque’s known for its towering 116-metre
minaret.

的 建 筑 蓝 色 清 真 寺 , 瞩 目 于 宠 大 白 蓝 穹 顶
和 4 根 柱 子 , 寺 内 以 当 地 马 来 西 亚 艺 术 精
致 装 饰 。 最 后 , 至 布 特 拉 清 真 寺 或 称 粉 红
清 镇 寺 , 该 建 筑 位 于 普 特 拉 贾 亚 湖 畔 ,
湖 面 显 示 宛 如 清 镇 寺 在 漂 浮 , 而 这 里 有
116 米 高 的 观 景 塔 。
三 天 的 旅 行 虽 然 那 么 短 暂 , 但 吉 隆 坡
留 下 欢 乐 印 象 , 是 一 个 充 满 魅 力 之 城 。
