TRAVEL
ด้วยความสูงราว 200 เมตร จากลักษณะของ
สายน้ำไหลที่ทิ้งตัวลงจากหน้าผาสู่หุบเหวสูงลิ่ว
ดิ่งชัน ทำให้น้ำตกแห่งนี้เป็นจุดชมวิวห้ามพลาด
ของแม่ฮ่องสอน โดยจากหน้าผาฝั่งตรงข้ามน้ำตก
สามารถพักผ่อนหย่อนใจซึมซับไปกับสายน้ำ
ได้อย่างมีความสุข
จากนั้นมุ่งสู่อำเภอปาย ที่ห่างจากอำเภอเมือง
ขึ้นไปทางเหนือ 111 กิโลเมตร และผ่านทาง
คดเคี้ยวนับพันโค้ง เพื่อไปชื่นชมกับความงาม
ของ ‘ทะเลหมอกหยุนไหล’ สถานที่ชมทะเลหมอก
สุดโรแมนติก ตั้งอยู่บนยอดเขาสูงห่างจากหมู่บ้าน
จีนสันติชลเพียง 1.6 กิโลเมตร จุดเด่นคือมีสาย
หมอกรวมตัวกันเป็นก้อนไหลเหมือนกับสายน้ำ
ท่ามกลางหุบเขา และทะเลหมอกนี้มีทั้งในฤดู
หนาวและฤดูฝน เมื่อลงจากทะเลหมอกหยุนไหล
ยังไปเที่ยวต่อกันได้ที่ ‘หมู่บ้านจีนสันติชล’ เพียง
ก้าวแรกที่เข้าสู่หมู่บ้าน จะรู้สึกเสมือนหลุดเข้าไป
อยู่ในเมืองจีนจริงๆ เพราะทั้งผู้คน ภาษา เสื้อผ้า
อาหาร บ้านเรือน และข้าวของต่างๆ ล้วนเป็น
จีนแท้ แถมมีการสร้างกำแพงเมืองจีนจำลอง และ
หอเชิงเทินประดับธงทิวปลิวสะบัดให้ขึ้นไปชม
วิวถ่ายภาพ หรือจะไปขี่ม้าเล่นก็ได้ ที่สำคัญยังมี
อาหารจีนอร่อยๆ อย่างหมั่นโถวกับขาหมูตุ๋น
ยาจีนร้อนๆ ให้ลิ้มลองอย่างมีความสุขอีกด้วย
นิยามแห่งความสุขของแต่ละสถานที่ย่อม
แตกต่างกันไป ซึ่งสำหรับแม่ฮ่องสอนแล้ว
การได้ไปสัมผัสอย่างใกล้ชิด ทำให้ได้พบนิยาม
ในแบบที่เรียกว่า เป็นสุขแท้แม้เรียบง่าย
จนอยากกลับไปเยือนอีกบ่อยๆ นั่นเอง

KNOWN FOR ITS COLOSSAL MOUNTAINS, PADDY FIELDS, AND WHIRLING MIST,
MAE HONG SON IS JUST THE DESTINATION FOR A SIMPLE VACATION.
Given its mountainous terrain,
the province is best explored by
car to appreciate its stunning
natural scenery to the hilt. The
first destination on most tourists’
itinerary is Wat Phra That Doi Kong
Mu. Perched on a hill, the province’s
iconic spiritual centre is famous for
its 2 white stupas and a favourite
sunrise viewpoint.
A short ride from Mae Hong Son
is the Su Tong Pae Bridge. The 500-
metre-long bamboo bridge spans
the rice paddies of Goong Mai Sak
village and leads towards Wat Suan
Dham Phusama. Every morning
Buddhist monks go on their morning
alms rounds along the bridge,
creating a scene of spiritual bliss.
Six kilometres from the city is
the Long-Necked Karen village at
Ban Huay Sua Thao. Head south on
the road to Khun Lum Prapas and
follow rural road MS4012 running
westwards and leading to the
Karen village. The highlight is the
long-necked women of the Padaung
tribe characterised by their brass
rings worn around their necks.
The Wonders of
Mae Hong Son
The rings are believed to ward off
evil spirits. The Padaung are skilled
fabric weavers and craftsmen.
Then, it’s worth checking out
the Pang Ung Garden, which is
44 kilometres to the north from
Mae Hong Son. The direct route is
along highway 1095, then turn left
into rural road MS4001 that takes
you to Tambon Mok Jampa where
Pang Tong Royal Palace is located.
Further away is Pang Ung, part of
the Pang Tong 2 Royal Development
Project with its coniferous forests.
Not far from here is Rak Thai Village
where visitors can experience a
Yunnanese way of life. Nestling in
a valley, the village boasts mud
houses and terraced tea plantations.
South of Mae Hong Son is
Mae Surin Waterfall in Khun Yuam
district. The tallest waterfall of the
north cascades 200 metres down
the mountainside.
About 111 kilometres from
Mae Hong Son is Pai district that is
known for its vast sea of mist.
For that matter, head to the Yun Lai
viewpoint atop a hill for the trail
of mist flowing along hillsides like
a river. Nearby is Santichon Village,
also referred to as the Chinese
Yunnan Cultural Village. The locals
here are the descendants of migrants
from Yunnan in southern China.
The village is like a little Chinese empire,
with all things Chinese, from houses
and clothes to people, language
and food. The village boasts
scaled-down replicas of a section
of the Great Wall of China and
a watchtower complete with
battlements. The village is the perfect
spot to end the tour in style with a
sumptuous Chinese meal.
