Telephone switchboard operators<br />

From the early years, telephone subscribers were<br />

connected manually by female telephone switchboard<br />

operators at the telephone exchanges. The telephone<br />

operators’ work was quite demanding and under strict<br />

supervision. At the large telephone exchanges, the young<br />

women were able to serve up to 500 calls an hour. Some<br />

telephone exchanges were not fully automated until the<br />

1970s.<br />

TV<br />

Jydsk Telefon was interested in cable TV as early as in<br />

1963, but the four regional telephone companies were<br />

not permitted to establish the cable network<br />

infrastructure until 1985. When the former regional<br />

companies merged in 1995, the TV businesses joined to<br />

become Tele Danmark Kabel TV, which was renamed<br />

YouSee in 2007. Continuous upgrades of the cable<br />

network infrastructure have subsequently made digital<br />

TV, HD and high-speed internet access available via the<br />

cable network. In 2005, IP technology allowed TV to be<br />

distributed via <strong>TDC</strong>’s broadband access on ADSL, and<br />

<strong>TDC</strong> TV was launched.<br />
