R. Dwayne Betts, A Question of Freedom: A
Memoir of Learning, Survival, and Coming of Age
in Prison(Avery/Penguin). Reginald Dwayne Betts
is a husband, the father of a young son and a
poet. Betts won a 2010 NAACP Image Award. He
has been awarded the Holden Fellowship from the
Warren Wilson MFA Program for Writers, the Soros
Justice Fellowship from the Open Society Institute,
a Cave Canem Fellowship and a scholarship to the
Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference. His poetry has
appeared in such journals as Ploughshares, Crab
Orchard Reviewand Poet Lore.
