Letters <strong>and</strong> the Berlin Prize of the American<br />

Academy in Berlin. His poems have appeared in<br />

The Atlantic Monthly, The New Republic, The New<br />

York Review of Books, The New Yorker, The Paris<br />

Review, The Threepenny Review,<strong>and</strong> elsewhere.<br />

From 1982 to 1988 he was executive director of<br />

the Academy of American Poets, <strong>and</strong> from 1993 to<br />

1999 he was Briggs-Copel<strong>and</strong> lecturer in poetry at<br />

Harvard. At present, he teaches at Ohio State<br />

University <strong>and</strong> lives in Boston.<br />
