pressures. Centrifugals are generally quiet and<br />
vibration-free while operating. Most must be<br />
located below the liquid level of the reservoir<br />

PUMP SELECTION GUIDE<br />
SELF-PRIMING PUMPS<br />
Usually these are positive-displacement pumps<br />
of relatively low fl ow rates against reasonably<br />
high discharge pressures. Self-priming pumps<br />
normally have higher noise and vibration levels<br />
than centrifugals. As the name implies, these<br />
pumps have varying abilities to lift liquids from<br />
reservoirs below the pump levels and prime<br />
themselves.<br />

SPECIAL SERVICE PUMPS<br />
Many pumps are designed for specifi c applications<br />
even though they may be either centrifugal<br />
or self-priming. Included in this are pumps for<br />
metering small fl ows, injecting chemicals into<br />
fl uid lines, transferring from drums or barrels,<br />
partially or completely submersible. These<br />
pumps are usually the best options for the types<br />
of applications described.<br />
