The apron is white silk, bordered in gold, with the Ineffable Delta in<br />

the center. The jewel is a quadrant (compass open to ninety degrees)<br />

topped by a crown, and with a nine-pointed star on the obverse, and a<br />

five-pointed blazing star (with the Tetragrammaton) on the reverse.<br />

The compass is opened on a segment of a circle, inscribed with the num-<br />

bers 3, 5, 7, 9. The ring contains the inscription "Virtue unites,<br />

death cannot separate." The girdle has nine colors: blue (friendship),<br />

red (zeal), and yellow (wisdom); green (hope) and purple (dignity);<br />

white (purity) and black (seriousness and modesty); stone (firmness and<br />

fidelity) and flame (ardent affection and charity). These are all<br />

interwoven with olive green (peace and brotherhood).<br />

Festivals: Annual meetings of Councils are held on the 20th day of Tebet<br />

(commemorating the return to Jerusalem from Babylon), followed<br />

by the Grand Feast day on the 23rd day of Adar (commemorating<br />

the reconstruction of the Temple). Also, the Spring and<br />

Autumn Equinoxes are celebrated, "in memory of the Temple<br />

having been built twice." Princes of Jerusalem, when visit-<br />

ing inferior Councils or <strong>Lodge</strong>s, are received under the "arch<br />

of steel."<br />

15. KNIGHT OF <strong>THE</strong> EAST OR SWORD<br />

After the seventy years of the Babylonian captivity, King Cyrus of<br />

Persia (after a prophetic dream) allowed the release of the 42,360<br />

captives, and their return to Jerusalem. He also permitted the Second<br />

Temple to be built, under the direction of Zerubbabel, the Governor<br />

of Judea. Upon their journey back, however, the release of the captives
