“El año pasado, fuimos al Instituto de Estudios Altoaragoneses a realizar una actividad
con el Festival de Cine. Primero, vimos una película cortita, hecha con marionetas
de papel. Me gustó mucho. Después, hicimos nosotros una marioneta de papel
como las de la película y por grupos realizamos pequeñas grabaciones. Poníamos la
marioneta de una forma y Ángel le hacía una foto con una cámara especial. Cambiábamos
de postura a la figura y… ¡Otra foto! Y así, unas cuantas veces. Al final,
cada grupo tenía su propio cortometraje. Luego los vimos todos. Nos parecieron muy
divertidos. Ese día nos lo pasamos muy bien (aparte de que nos saltamos clase).”

Y así fue, poco más o menos, con la colaboración inestimable de “nuestra querida
Lotte” -como ya le llamamos con cariño-, como revivimos otra vez la animación
más clásica y genuina, ésa que nos sigue pareciendo magia y remite a las sombras
chinas. Ésa con la que Lotte Reiniger, una mujer con gran sentido del humor, hizo
la bellísima y muy oriental Las aventuras del príncipe Achmed (1923-26), el primer
largometraje de dibujos animados de la historia del cine.
Emociona y contagia la ilusión con que las niñas y niños de la escuela se aplican a
pintar los fondos y a recortar las siluetas, el rigor con el que mueven sus articulaciones
y la imaginación con la que inventan las historias que van a protagonizar, pero
sobre todo su saber trabajar en equipo y la complicidad que establecen con la pantalla.
Si pudiera verlo “nuestra querida Lotte” reiría feliz, porque quienes hoy sueñan
otros mundos gracias al cine, han de ser quienes los hagan posibles en la realidad.
Por eso en el Festival tendremos un nuevo Taller Lotte Reiniger de cine de animación
de siluetas, taller que culminará con la proyección de la secuencia grabada y
merecidos aplausos.

“Last year, we went to the Instituto de Estudios Altoaragoneses for an activity with
the Film Festival.
First, we saw a short film made with paper puppets. I liked it a lot. We then made a
paper puppet just like in the movie, and in groups we made small recordings.
We would place the puppet one way and Ángel would take a picture of it with a
special camera. We would change the position of the puppet and… another photo!
And like that, a few more times.
In the end, each group had its own short film. Then we saw them all. We thought
they were very amusing. We had so much fun that day (aside from the fact that we
got to skip class).”

And that is how, more or less, with the invaluable contribution of “our beloved Lotte”
– as we have come to affectionately call her – we relive once again the most genuine
and classical animation, that which to us still seems like magic and refers it on to
shadow puppetry. That with which Lotte Reiniger, a woman with a great sense of
humour, made the beautiful and very Oriental film, The Adventures of Prince Achmed
(1923-1926), the first animated feature film in the history of filmmaking.
It is very moving and exciting seeing how the girls and boys of the school work so
hard in painting the backgrounds and cutting the silhouettes, the manner in which
they move their joints and the imagination they have in making up the stories they
are going to star in, but above all, the way they work as a team and the rapport they
establish with the screen. “Our beloved Lotte” would smile happily if she could only
see it, because those that today dream other worlds thanks to filmmaking, are the
ones that tomorrow will make it a reality.
Therefore, at the Festival we will have a new Lotte Reiniger Workshop of animated
cinema silhouettes, a workshop that will end with the screening of the recorded
sequence and the applauses so much deserved.
